Today marks the sixty-fifth celebration of Father’s Day for my dad. Coincidentally, my older brother just turned sixty-five last month. Unfortunately, Dad left this world after his forty-sixth Father’s Day.

One of the joys I had in putting together “Holiday Biblical Characters: Finding My Stories in the Stories of Christmas and Easter” was adding Mother’s Day and Father’s day stories to the collection. Here’s an excerpt from “A Tribute to My Number One Hero – My Dad,” referencing Jewish heroes for Peter, John, James, and the rest of the twelve.

“While no book, movie, or miniseries was ever created for him, we have set aside one day out of the year to honor him. His name was Wesley Waddell. I speak, of course, of my dad and Father’s Day.”

The photo is a charcoal drawing my mother drew of him in the 1990s. Happy Father’s Day! Enjoy sharing more fishing stories with Simon Peter today!
