It was a jokingly challenging conference for me and Ole Miss as the Christian Society for Kinesiology, Leisure, and Sports Studies met at Baylor University last week.
First, Baylor basketball coach Scott Drew spoke at our Thursday evening banquet. His brother, Bryce, hit a last-second shot to defeat Ole Miss in a March Madness game years ago.
Second, Baylor President, Dr. Linda Livingstone, who, like Dale Connally and me, worked at least one summer at Camp Soaring Hawk in southwest Missouri, commented on last year’s Sugar Bowl Baylor victory over Ole Miss.
Finally, at our last break, Dr. Connally put the Sugar Bowl game on the screen for my enjoyment.
It reminded me of a chapter title from my first book, “Job: With Friends Like You, Who Needs Enemas?”
Beyond the good-natured ribbing, it was a wonderful week hanging out with incredible friends.
