I find it admirable when higher level staff take on work that is usually assigned to lower levels of management or operations. An example is when a restaurant manager cleans tables or fills in for a server. I encourage my students to never think so highly of themselves that they won’t pick up trash or unclog a toilet.
Today, while visiting Grace Bible Church, I see the Senior Pastor, JD Shaw, serving as an usher at the beginning of the service.
I asked him if he was moonlighting as an usher. He smiled and replied, “If they get rid of me as pastor, I’ll have something to fall back on.” Of course, I laughed out loud!
Since we take the Bible personally, I see JD’s behavior in the same light of Jesus washing the feet of His disciples. Thank you, JD for a great demonstration of biblical servant leadership.
